Year 4-5

Hi, I'm Whaea Tash!

I am the Whanau Tui kaiako and Deputy Principal here at Rangiuru School. This is my third year at Rangiuru School now, and my third year as a Tui teacher. I am so lucky to be a part of such an amazing school community!

A little bit about me...I have been in teaching for about 14 years now, both in Primary and Early Childhood, taking a few short stints on maternity leave in that time to have my boys, Nathan (7) and Cody (4). My whanau, which also includes my husband Ethan, Oscar the border collie and a few cats and sheep, live just up the road from school on a little lifestyle/bush block, where we enjoy lazy days at home, gardening, playing in the bush and hanging out with our animals. On the weekends and in the school holidays we love to go adventuring. Bike riding, bush walking, hiking, camping, kayaking, swimming and fishing are just some of our favourite things to do!

This is Whanau Tui!

Whanau Tui is our Year 4-5 class, which has 20 students. We are a lovely bunch of enthusiastic and kind tamariki who enjoy hands on learning, like science, gardening, cooking and bush classroom. We have strong routines in Whanau Tui and our class rules and school values are really important to us!

Class Rules:

- We respect and. care for each other

- We take care of our classroom and belongings

- We are honest and always tell the truth

- We are ready and excited for learning

Our days begin with Mihi Whakatau, led by the students, which includes a mihi, karakia/inoi, waiata, pepeha and mindfulness before launching into a morning or Literacy. Literacy includes Shared Reading, Structured Literacy, Writing and Code (phonics/spelling), and is strongly influenced and driven by our term theme. After that is a block of Numeracy (Maths), followed by Inquiry/Theme learning. Wednesdays include Te Reo lessons and Kapahaka, and our Fridays are spent in Specialist Classes - Garden to Table, Bush Classroom and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Maths).
